What Is The Association? -- Joining AMHL -- Renewing your AMHL membership -- Benefits Of Membership --
The Association of Mental Health Librarians (AMHL) is a professional organization of individuals working in the field of mental health information delivery. Its members come from a variety of settings: inpatient hospitals, academic and research institutions, and psychiatric and psychological agencies. AMHL provides opportunities for its members to enhance their professional skills; encourages research activities in mental health librarianship; and strengthens the role of the librarian within the mental health community. A highlight of the Association is its annual conference, which provides continuing education and networking possibilities for its members.

Librarians, library assistants, library associates or any other individual interested in the field of mental health librarianship are eligible to join. MLIS students with an interest in mental health are welcome as well.

Small Grants Program
Members may apply to receive funding from the AMHL Small Grants Program. This program was established to provide an opportunity for members to engage in research and creative endeavors.

Reciprocal Interlibrary Loan Agreements
Members may network with other mental health libraries for interlibrary loan purposes, often developing free reciprocal interlibrary loan agreements.

The MHLIB Listserv
MHLIB is a discussion forum for mental health librarians, consultants in the mental health field, and other professionals working or having an interest in mental health. The primary purpose of the MHLIB is to share information, answer questions, share available duplicate materials, and post announcements of conferences and employment opportunities. Maintained by John R. Clark, MEd, MLIS, the list is by approved subscription only to maintain the high level of professionalism. To participate, simply send an email to the address listed below next to SUBSCRIBE. Access will be granted shortly thereafter by the group moderator.

AMHL Meeting Scholarship
Not only do members pay a lower meeting registration fee than non-members, first-time attendees to the group's meeting may apply for a scholarship for meeting expenses up to $500.00. Requirements are: membership for at least 2 years and never having attended an AMHL meeting. Contact Stuart Moss, AMHL Treasurer at moss@nki.rfmh.org

Publisher Discounts
AMHL members also receive a 10% discount on purchases of many products from American Psychiatric Publishing for their individual use. The discount applies to many products, including books, journals, and videos. (The discount does not apply to some other products, such as database and electronic book subscriptions (psychiatryonline.org), and does not apply to institutional purchases of any products). AMHL members will need to identify themselves as such to APP Customer Service staff (i.e., telephone orders) and Data Entry staff (i.e., mailed or faxed orders). APPI staff will then verify that the customer is an AMHL member by checking on the AMHL Directory page and process the order with the discount.
